We arose fairly early to drive to Auckland Airport to return our car, and I must say the journey was easier than I had feared. There were signs for the airport, and the traffic was not too awful. I had allowed 3 hours for the journey, but we managed to do it in 2, so we could have enjoyed another hour in bed!
After returning our car, we caught a bus into the city, and paused to make a phone call about Paul's missing laptop to the train company. Apparently, there is no sign of it, so we need to regard it as stolen, and make another trip to the police station.
We caught a taxi to our hotel, which is very smart. We even have our own kitchen, we could cook ourselves a meal! Not that I intend to.
We also have a good view from our balcony across to part of the harbour.
It also seems to be in quite a smart part of the town, as can be seen from some of the other buildings.
It isn't quite as central as our last place in Auckland though, so it is a longer walk to shops and restaurants.
We went to look at a computer shop, and Paul has bought a replacement laptop. Now he will be fully occupied with putting software on it... And it will be something else I need to make sure he doesn't mislay - along with his phone, wallet, passport, hat etc. My elder son thinks I should attach things to him with keychains, but there are so many things he can lose, he would be walking around sounding like Marley's ghost!
We had to return to the hotel in the afternoon for the first tour group meeting, so we couldn't go anywhere for the day. After that, a lot of time had to be spent visiting the Police Station, so somehow the day has gone and we have done no sightseeing. Never mind, we start again tomorrow with a vengeance.
