This is a pretty boring post because today was just a day of travel. We had spent the previous night at Gatwick, but unfortunately I did not sleep well and we had to wake up at 3.15am in order to check in by 4am for a 6.20 flight. We were unfortunately booked into a hotel at the South Terminal but our flight departed from the North Terminal and it took a good 15 minutes to walk from one place to the other. I think I need a lighter backpack, I may be getting too old for long walks around airports carrying a heavy backpack and dragging a suitcase. At least I had had the good sense to do the walk the night before to see how to get there and work out how long it would take.
Even at 4am the airport was very crowded and there were huge queues at the EasyJet bag drop and at security, so we didn’t have too long to wait after that before we were called to the gate. The flight was only about an hour and a half and quite uneventful, and we landed in Munich where we were cautioned by notices that, along with our passport, we might need to show a return ticket, proof of hotel accommodation, and possession of credit cards! This is all new and one of the many Brexit benefits. We did get questioned a bit by the immigration officer but at least we didn’t need to prove we had our credit cards.
There was quite a wait for other people in the party to find their luggage at the airport, and then we had to meet another flight at a different terminal; so we didn’t start on the drive to Kramsach for quite a while. Unfortunately, the air-conditioning on the bus then failed and it became hotter and hotter, so we were quite boiled by the time we made a motorway stop for lunch. Then it was another boiling hour before we arrived in Kramsach around 3. I can’t say much about the scenery because we were on a motorway for all but the last 10 minutes and motorways look pretty much the same the world over. Kramsach at first glance seems to look like what you would think of as typical of the Tyrol. This is the view from our bathroom window. We haven’t tried the swimming pool yet.
You might guess from this being the only photo that we didn’t go exploring. I was so exhausted after a night with very little sleep and a couple of hours of being boiled alive in the bus that I had another couple of hours fast asleep on the bed after I had unpacked. And it was soon time to shower and change for dinner.
We are told that the bus air-conditioning will be repaired by tomorrow, and we are off to Innsbruck at 9am so it’s a fairly early start. We have a free day in Kramsach later in the week, so there may be more opportunity for exploring then.
