August and September 2018

We spent nearly 3 weeks of August in Cheshire as my daughter-in-law took the children to Spain with her mother while Paul and my younger son took on a huge project in the garden. The house is built on a slope, and had a system of decks which were all rotting gently. So they ripped them up.

I imagine my daughter-in-law would have had a fit had she seen what they did, so it was probably just as well she was in Spain.

The mess in the photo above was to be replaced with three big decks connected with stairs, and they also intended to build a summer house. (They hadn’t intended to build it, my son had ordered it without noticing it came flat-packed! When it came, it was just planks and instructions! It took them more than 3 days and they wished Ikea had made it as they said the instructions were very poor. They still have some parts left over!) My only involvement here was keeping house, washing their clothes and feeding them, and painting the supporting wood under the decking with 3 coats of wood preservative.

This was the almost finished result. My son was left to finish things of by himself whenever we went home.

We were back home by August 20th, then my sister, my younger son and wife and the children all arrived to stay until the end of the month. My sister stayed longer as she started work but wasn’t starting travelling back to work but working from home.

September was also busy as I needed an MRI scan to determine the cause of my sudden deafness and confirm it was indeed glue ear - which it was. September is also birthday time! Paul and I turned 75, my older son is 42 and my younger son is now 40.  My younger grandson was 5 at the end of September, and has started school.

We needed to look after him for part of half term, as his parents are at work. Fortunately,  Cheshire Half term is the following week so we were able to go up there to spend their half term week with the other grandchildren.
