September 24th - October 7th
As soon as we arrived home, we started on our family alternative to Christmas time, known to us as Birthday Time. All 4 of us have birthdays within 12 days, and a year ago our smaller grandson added to it by also arriving in that 12 day period. So it's a mad festival of buying and sending of cards and presents, long phone calls to Manchester, and attending of the odd birthday bash.
I complicated it this time by getting really ill and having to be taken to A & E in an ambulance. Heaven knows what it was this time, but it started on Wednesday October 1st with severe abdominal pain and then vomiting. My blood pressure dropped like a stone so I felt very faint. The nice paramedics from the ambulance gave me morphine for the pain as well as some other drug to stop the sickness, and they had to give me more of both at A & E.
I was eventually discharged on Thursday morning, and returned home to sleep, feeling not much better on Friday. On Friday night, the severe diarrhoea started, and lasted 48 hours. After that, there was a great deal of washing to be done, and I was barely compos mentis again by the time of Paul's birthday - though at least I remembered his!
The prospect of a week in Switzerland, which is fast approaching, is not being viewed by me with unmixed pleasure. What more can go wrong with my health, I wonder?
